e-MDs Participates in 2008 Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise Connectathon
April 28, 2008
AUSTIN, TX – e-MDs, an industry leader in the development and implementation of electronic health records (EHRs), announced Solution Series completion of the 2008 Integrating Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) Connectathon. e-MDs participated with more than 135 healthcare information technology systems that were tested by 389 individuals. The ninth annual convention was held in Chicago from January 28 to February 1, 2008.
“Connectathon is wonderful opportunity for e-MDs to showcase our focus on system interoperability and recognize how crucial this function is to nationwide adoption of electronic health records,” stated Dr. Michael Stearns, President of e-MDs. “It is an honor to be recognized by a group of our peers on an industry sanctioned stage. We look forward to shining again in 2009.”
At Connectathon, vendors tested interoperability to ensure patients benefit from the five “rights” of healthcare: the right information, at the right time, on the right device, in the right format, and in the right context. Those participating tested how well their systems conform to IHE integration profiles and sharing patient information with complementary systems. The IHE testing process is a critical step in achieving systems interoperability to enhance the quality of patient care. e-MDs Solution Series excelled in all areas.
“Interoperable systems provide clinicians with secure and efficient access to the comprehensive patient information they need to make fully informed clinical decisions,” said Joyce Sensmeier, MS, RN-BC, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, vice president, informatics, at HIMSS. “These systems are the foundation of the comprehensive electronic health record and nationwide and regional health information networks.”
Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) is an international alliance of healthcare professional societies, healthcare IT stakeholder organizations, government agencies and the healthcare IT industry. The IHE initiative defines standards-based profiles for achieving interoperability and effectively managing and communicating health information. IHE Integration Profiles provide a common language for healthcare IT purchasers and vendors offering a more precise definition of how standards are implemented to meet identified clinical needs.
