e-MDs Participates in 2009 Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise Connectathon

Electronic health records vendor passes rigorous testing for interoperability.

March 5, 2009

AUSTIN, TEXAS – Today e-MDs, an industry leader in the development and implementation of electronic health records (EHRs) and practice management (PM) solutions, announced its Solution Series Chart product has completed the 2009 Integrating Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) Connectathon. This is the second year e-MDs has participated in Connectathon, joining more than 130 healthcare information technology systems that were tested by 70 vendors. The 10th annual Connectathon was held February 23-27 in Chicago, IL.

Participants tested how well their systems conform to IHE integration profiles that facilitate the sharing of patient information between complementary systems. The IHE testing process is a critical step in achieving the ability to “connect” physicians with other healthcare providers in a manner consistent with the requirements for being a “meaningful user” outlined in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. e-MDs excelled in all areas demonstrating interoperability with a number of vendors in sharing patient registrations and updates, responding to queries on patient demographics and identifiers, and uploading/downloading patient documents, including medical summaries.

“Connectathon has always been a useful opportunity for e-MDs to showcase our focus on exchanging information with other healthcare platforms. With the timely, national spotlight on healthcare technology, Connectathon further illustrates the value of interoperability in the nationwide adoption of health information technology, including electronic health records,” stated Dr. Michael Stearns, President of e-MDs.

Solution Series excelled in three new categories this year including Cross-Enterprise Clinical Documents Share, Cross-Enterprise Sharing of Medical Summaries, and Cross-Enterprise Sharing of Scanned Documents. IHE Connectathon is a challenging event, and e-MDs performance was commendable.

“Industry conferences and showcases like IHE Connectathon are increasingly more important to HIT because they help illuminate those products worthy of adoption and implementation,” concluded Stearns. IHE celebrates the adoption of EHRs by improving the exchange of information among healthcare systems. Its goal is to improve the quality, efficiency and safety of clinical care by making relevant health information conveniently accessible to patients and authorized care providers.
