e-MDs’ Team Members Selected for CCHIT Work Groups

Management chosen to assist in restructuring certification process.

June 30, 2009

AUSTIN, TEXAS – e-MDs, an industry leader in the development and implementation of electronic health records (EHRs) and practice management (PM) solutions, announced the selection of two e-MDs executives to serve on the Certification Commission for Health Care Information Technology’s (CCHIT) 2009-2010 volunteer work groups. These 19 groups will be working with new criteria in an effort to be more consistent with changing standards and implementation specifications, as well as the “meaningful use” criteria that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) must publish by December 31, 2009.

The 19 all-volunteer 2009-2010 workgroups were selected from a pool of more than 600 applicants who submitted 1123 separate applications – four times as many as there were work group slots available. These new and returning volunteers will take on the challenge of rapidly transitioning the Commission’s existing certification programs and developing new paths to certification. Work group members meet for the first time on July 15 and 16 when they will receive the Commission’s guidance for their upcoming work, as well as review the work in progress by the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) and its Advisory Committees.

e-MDs’ Chuck Frederick, Vice President Clinical Applications, was selected to serve on the Electronic Prescribing Workgroup, and Maria Rudolph, Vice President of Medical Informatics, was selected to serve on the Cardiovascular Health (CV) Work Group.

“e-MDs is highly supportive of CCHIT’s ongoing efforts to improve health care through the certification of electronic health records, which has gained even greater significance given the EHR incentives contained within the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009,” said Dr. Michael Stearns, CEO and President of e-MDs. “Chuck Frederick and his team have been at the center of our successful 2006, 2007, 2008, Child Health and Cardiovascular CCHIT certifications. He has also been actively involved in national e-Prescribing efforts. Maria Rudolph has an extensive and diverse background in health information technology, having held informatics positions at Cerner, QuadraMed, the American College of Cardiology, and the American College of Physicians. We feel both Chuck and Maria will make valuable contributions to their respective working groups.”
