Florida Medical Association Selects e-MDs as Top Tier EHR Vendor

e-MDs will assist physicians at "Meaningful Use" workshops.

January 20, 2011

AUSTIN, TX — e-MDs, a leading provider of electronic health records (EHRs), announced they have been selected by the Florida Medical Association (FMA), in partnership with Maxwell IT Company, as a leading EHR vendor as part of a new series of workshops designed to help Florida physicians achieve "Meaningful Use" compliance. The workshops will run from January to April 2011, and will guide doctors through the process of choosing, implementing and upgrading an EHR system to meet their practice needs. The workshops will take place in nine Florida cities and are free for FMA and county medical society members.

"The FMA wants to ensure that physicians have the most credible, up-to-date information on EHR systems so they can better serve their patients," said Christopher Pittman, M.D., chair of the FMA Health Care Information Technology Task Force. "The process of choosing and implementing a system can be overwhelming and time-consuming. The value of these workshops is that they cut through the clutter and help doctors choose the right system for their practice needs, while meeting Meaningful Use standards."

Physicians will have an opportunity to test-drive the latest EHR tools, and the FMA and Maxwell IT have simplified the selection process by identifying a short list of companies that meet top-tier and emerging technology criteria. e-MDs was selected based on ambulatory-product market features, PM/EHR integration, financial stability, CCHIT certification and contractual willingness to meet "Meaningful Use" Stage 1 requirements and a solid market presence in the State of Florida. Solution Series™ also recently received 2010 Best in KLAS Awards for Ambulatory EMR (2-5 physician) and Practice Management (2-5 physician) as well as Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) certification via Drummond Group. These accolades as well as recurring high scores in physician-based surveys conducted by AAFP and ACP, made e-MDs a clear choice as a FMA workshop vendor.

The EHR workshops, which are also open to practice administrators and office personnel, will provide:

• Best practices for choosing, implementing and upgrading an EHR system to meet Meaningful Use

• Guidance on meeting the new federal health care law's definition of Meaningful Use to receive incentives up to $64,000 per provider

• Information on the EHR products that consistently receive top ratings from industry analysts, state medical associations and the FMA

• Free EHR selection and implementation planning toolkits for FMA members

• Certified Medical Education (CME) credit

"We are honored to have been selected as a top tier vendor and look forward to helping providers in Florida move towards a streamlined and interconnected healthcare community," said Dr. Michael Stearns, President and CEO of e-MDs. "The FMA workshops will be an asset to the Florida healthcare community and we're confident physicians will achieve meaningful use with our product."

"The FMA's ultimate goal with the workshop series is to help physicians practice medicine," said FMA Director of Medical Economics and Associate General Counsel Linda McMullen, J.D. "Doctors must not only choose the right EHR system, but also incorporate it properly into the routine care process to achieve Meaningful Use. These are hands-on courses that are designed to help them make confident choices and learn best practices, which will maximize their investment and enable them to better care for their patients."

The workshops will be hosted at 12 county medical societies and hospitals throughout Florida. For more information about the workshops or to register, contact the FMA at (800) 762-0233, or visit www.flmedical.org.
