A Message from David Winn, M.D.,
Founder and CEO of e-MDs
On behalf of e-MDs, I would like to welcome you and briefly tell you about our company, the origin of our products, and our vision for e-MDs' solutions.

As a practicing physician, I specialized in family medicine as a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. In 1987, my colleagues and I founded Northwest Diagnostic, a multi-specialty clinic in Austin, Texas. Our objective was to establish a clinic that would harness the power of information technology to deliver excellent patient care, operate efficiently, and still remain highly profitable. With this concept in mind, we developed an electronic health record / electronic medical record (EHR / EMR) system, utilizing computers in each exam room.

In 1996, our clinic needed to replace our aging EMR. We spent many months evaluating products of all prices and quality. No single offering could perform the functions we needed. Those that came close were too costly -- priced in the tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. We decided that with our combined medical background and information technology experience, we could create a better solution. Hence, e-MDs was born.

Currently, e-MDs employs a staff of full-time physicians, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, and programmers. Many of the professionals on our staff have a primary background in medicine, while others have significant experience in business and information technology. We have years of real-world experience dealing with the economic benefits of using computerized patient charting, and more than 2,200 medical practices across the United States already use our software.

Today, e-MDs empowers physicians with clinical and financial tools to improve patient care, maintain financial independence and rediscover the privilege and joy of practicing medicine -- making all of this available at an affordable price. We launched e-MDs to partner with physicians to make this vision a reality.
