BILLING SERVICES Success Feeds Growth and Expansion

As most customers know, in January of 2009 e-MDs launched the e-MDs Billing Services department, in large part due to an increase in customer interest.  “The majority of the support calls our company receives are related to billing, and much of that has to do with the training of billers,” notes Patrick Hall, Vice President of Business Development for e-MDs.

Offered to new and existing Solution Series™ customers, the Billing Services provides a variety of comprehensive services designed to aid practices in regaining control over revenue cycle processes.

With numerous billing services and solutions on the market the real differentiator is how effective the billing service is in reducing days in a/r by aggressive follow up. Anyone can submit claims, Hall notes, and if the practice is doing a decent job on the front end, about 95 percent of those claims will be accepted. Many billing services are content to file claims, forward payments, and post remittances; but a good service will work hard to collect the unpaid 5 percent or so of bills and will partner with a practice to maximize its first-pass acceptance rate. e-MDs Billing Services has CPC Certified Coders on staff and promises in writing that it will meet MGMA benchmarks in areas such as time to file, days in A/R, and net collection ratio.

The metrics for the customers are stellar:

  • Average of 30 Days or less in A/R
  • Average 98% Acceptance Rate for Claims Submissions
  • Claims typically submitted within a business day of Chart sign-off by the Physician
  • Patient Statements submitted weekly

The Billing Services utilize gross monthly collections, the payer mix, the provider specialty and other criteria in determining the competitive rate charged to each client.

Each client is assigned a dedicated account representative as their primary point of contact and communication.

We hold virtual monthly clinic administrator meetings to go over clinic reports and A/R review.

Gateway EDI electronic claims services are “included” in the billing services percentage fee, as it the cost of Alpha II Claimstaker claims editing software .

Due to the overwhelmingly positive response, the Billing Services department is growing rapidly and now supports many primary care and specialty providers.

According to Kyla Wilson, Director of Billing Services, the department’s near term goals include offering practices short-term assistance in A/R management for those clients who might need “emergency a/r cleanup, follow-up and consulting services” to help get them back on track.

Customers have also been excited by the addition of Batch Eligibility functionality, with the release of Solutions Series 6.3.0. “Since the majority of claims rejections are patient demographic and eligibility related, the speed and convenience of Batch Eligibility is a tremendous upgrade.” notes Wilson.
