Sessions

The 2008 e-MDs User Conference offers 6 (six) tracks of suggested curriculm from which attendees can select sessions. These tracks provide guided courses for attendees wishing to focus on one or two specific knowledgebases, and include Beginner Chart, Advanced Chart, Beginner Bill, Advanced Bill, Front Desk and IT (Information Technology).

The 2008 e-MDs User Conference also features a Pre-Conference seminar focused on providing Specialties with tools and insight specific to their practices.

And it wouldn't be traditional without the fun of the Casino Night Meet and Greet. All registrants are invited to this evening of interacting with each other, as well as e-MDs management and staff, in an exciting "Vegas-style" environment.

Please join our staff in a day of learning geared towards specialties. This seminar will provide you with the tools to drive clinical quality and performance. From the time a patient is scheduled until the claim is generated, this session will enrich all of your staff members with the knowledge and confidence to utilize the advanced features of your e-MDs Solution Series.  
The session will include the following:
• Customize visit reasons to fit your specialty.
• Design time grids for specialty scheduling.
• Design and customize templates to ensure completeness and address specific needs (Chief complaint templates, HPI templates for the clinic’s top 10-20 diagnoses, Exam templates, so it looks like notes have been dictated, Plan templates)
• Create Fast Forms to automate the ROS information entry into the visit note.
• Create a ROS specific to your clinic to be used for new patients and patients seen annually.
• Create a substitution shortlist and differential diagnosis shortlist to expedite choosing a final diagnosis and/or documenting rationale.
• Effectively link the chief complaints to expedite your template search.

• Handle patient referrals—both incoming and outgoing.

The session will cover how to navigate the electronic claims wizard, reactivating a batch, the difference between NSF and ANSI, how electronic remittance can benefit your practice, identifying where an issue lies, following a claim from submittal to paid status, and how to monitor acceptance rates each week
    Front Desk 101

    Intended for the single provider clinics where the front desk person takes multi-tasking to a new level. Maximize your use of the e-MDs Solution Series to accommodate your office workflow.
    Chart Basics
    (Track: Beginner Chart)
    This session is recommended for providers and clinical staff that a have been using the software less than one year. Clinical users will learn how to maximize the basic functionality of the Chart module. Your staff will become more efficient when charting a patient visit, understand effective use of pre-clicks, shortcuts, and much more.
    Collections
    (Track: Advanced Bill)
    This session is recommended for office administrators, office managers, and billing staff. The collections module may be the most important tool that a practice has at its disposal. Come and learn how e-MDs collection module retrieves a list of invoices based on a multitude of different criteria set by users and then shows users extended information about the invoice and related account information. Your billing staff will understand that the collections module is a centralized place for multiple billing related tasks to be performed.

    Genomics
    (Track: All Chart)
    The role of health information technology in storing and utilizing genetic information at the point-of-care is on the verge of becoming widely implemented. Electronic health records can be used to store a digital representation of a patient's DNA which can then be cross-referenced to databases that contain information on the likelihood of the patient developing certain genetic conditions. In addition, capturing of genetic information at the point-of-care will be invaluable in researching genetic disorders and tendencies. Another potential use of genomics is identifying drugs that will work well based on specific receptor configurations and other factors controlled by the patient's genes. A significant consideration in this evolving field is patient privacy as genetic information has uniquely identifying characteristics. Learn about e-MDs’ involvement and future plans to empower clinicians in this rapidly developing field of medicine that will impact virtually every aspect of health care in the near future.
    Template Editing 101
    (Track: Beginner Chart)
    This session will walk you through the basics of creating and editing templates. Skills covered will include building new items, editing existing items, saving items in the library, copying and pasting items, and editing generated text. After this session, the user will be able to accomplish all necessary tasks for basic customization of templates. We will also discuss “rules” about editing and/or copying existing templates.
    Billing Workflow 101
    (Track: Beginner Bill)
    Practice Administrator, Office Manager, and Billing Staff will learn how to post charges and pre-payments efficiently. Special attention will be given to patient demographics and insurance entry. This session will cover the billing process all the way up to and through the EF/HCFA Wizards.
    Advanced Scheduling
    (Track: Beginner Bill)
    If you answer yes to even one of the questions listed below, this is the session for you!
    • Do you need to schedule the same type of appointment over and over?
    • Do you need a way to make sure appointments are scheduled in a certain order? (For instance, lab appointments following certain treatments, lab appointments following starting treatment with certain medications)

    Learn how to increase productivity through remote access technologies, using current hardware, software and policies.

    Template Editor 102/Overcoding
    (Track: Advanced Chart)
    These sessions are intended for users who are already proficient within Template Editor. We will explore how to update codes in the template library, how to build a library list, how to create custom lists, linked templates, editing on the fly, importing/exporting templates and using extended attributes to automate billing and charge entry. Using extended attributes to ensure proper coding will be covered as well as a discussion regarding using templates and medical necessity.

    Document Workflow/Scanning/Order Tracking
    (Track: Front Office & Beginner Chart)
    This session is an overall view of e-MDs DocMan and how it fits into your practice. Topics discussed will include scanning, fast filing, and re-filing of documents. Learn how to automate receipt, review and communication of clinical results. Clinical and clerical staff will leave feeling confident they can manage a paperless office.

    If Obstetrics is your specialty, this is the session you have been waiting for. An overview of the new OB module which interfaces with the current Solution Series will be presented. Features such as twin flowsheets, automatic EDD calculations based on either LMP, initial exam or ultrasound and automatic integration of all ACOG required information into a pre-formatted ACOG flow sheet are just a few of the items to be demonstrated during this exciting specialty driven session.
    RHC/FQHC

    Come and learn how to set up your e-MDs Solution Series to accommodate the world of RHC/FQHC billing. Also included will be information on building and using insurance specific templates to meet the needs of the RHC/FQHC. Also covered will be required reporting for RHC/FQHC.

    Participants will gain the knowledge to setup infrastructure security processes and procedures for their clinics.

    E&M Coding
    (Track: All Chart)
    This discussion will review basic and advanced E&M coding principles of use to physicians, coding professionals, and billing staff, update the attendees on case-law and auditor trends (in particular the ones pertaining to EHR usage), and discuss the nuances of how E&M codes are generated by the e-MDs coding engine. After this session the attendees will have a detailed understanding of how to optimize the e-MDs electronic health record so that it supports correct and fair E&M coding levels from the standpoint of a clinician and an auditor. This session will be presented by the president of e-MDs, who is a physician and certified professional coder and who speaks nationally on topics related to electronic health records and coding.
    Advanced Fee Schedules
    (Track: Advanced Bill)
    This session will cover how to access and report on your fee schedules. In addition, contract management will be discussed explaining the benefits of contracts and how to create them.
    Also included in this session, learn the details on how to access and create fee schedules, and set fee schedule rules and/or policies. This will be an in-depth review of this very important functionality.
    Daily Worklist
    (Track: Front Office, Beginner Bill, & Advanced Bill)
    This powerful function in e-MDs Solution Series can significantly impact staff productivity.  The Daily Work List enhances practice workflow by consolidating different functions into checklists based on user criteria.  If you are easily overwhelmed by using several modules simultaneously, learn about using the Daily Work List.

    This session requires full audience participation! An interactive workshop using real-life clinical and billing scenarios, experienced e-MDs workflow consultants will guide participants to better clinics. Role-play various scenarios using our “real life” medical office laboratory.

    Learn how to gather, analyze and manage clinical information contained in the e-MDs Solution Series to improve clinical outcomes.     Forms/Letters in Microsoft 2007
    (Track: All)
    Lost in Microsoft Word 2007? If so, attend this session to learn how to combine the old functions of Microsoft Word 2003 and the powerful new functions of this word processing program. In addition, learn how to automate the creation and printing of documents in e-MDs Solution Series.
    Flowsheets
    (Track: Beginner Chart)
    This session is recommended for providers and clinical staff. The Flowsheet module of e-MDs Chart is a very powerful and flexible component that allows users to capture and track virtually any type of clinical information. This information is displayed in a grid format much like a spreadsheet and allows users to view large amounts of data in a single, consolidated view. These flowsheets and the fields that are used to represent clinical information are all fully customizable by the user. The ability to customize or create new flowsheets makes this module a very flexible and useful component of the charting application. Come and learn how to maximize the use of flowsheets in your office.
    Setting Up Your System
    (Track: Beginner Bill)
    The session is recommended for any staff that will be the System Administrator of the software. Users will learn about adding new employees, their security rights and options in different modules, signing up for the Support Center, and much more. If you have been the person at the end of the year that didn’t remember how to download next year’s CPTs, RVUs, HCPCS, GPCI’s and build next year’s Medicare fee schedule, then you will not want to miss this session.
    Claims Management

    Users will better understand E&M coding and compliance policies used in their practices. The course will include information for editing your claims and making sure medical necessity is documented.
    Lab Interfaces
    (Track: All Chart)
    This session is designed to show providers and clinical staff how to maximize the use of Flowsheets. You will learn how to create and customize Flowsheets.

    The setup and configuration of lab interfaces will be detailed information that ultimately will benefit your office. Utilizing the lab interfaces and the administrative benefits of labs automatically being imported into patient charts will allow better patient care.
    Welch Allyn Interfaces
    (Track: All Chart)
    e-MDs Welch Allyn Interface allows clinicians to transfer cardiac study data from Welch Allyn's CardioPerfect software directly into a patient’s chart.. Accessing Welch Allyn from a patient’s chart automatically creates a patient record in the Welch Allyn system using demographic data from the e-MDs chart. When a Welch Allyn study is complete and its results confirmed, the Interface formats summary data from that study into an e-MDs flowsheet and places the flowsheet in the patient’s chart. Clinicians reviewing study results in e-MDs can immediately access the corresponding study in Welch Allyn with a single mouse click.
